  The residents of the Sri Saradha Devi Illam Welfare Association, Malaysia have celebrated the pongal festival with great enthusiasm at our association. This festival is dedicated to the sun god, Surya Bhagawan, and corresponds to Makar Sankranti, the harvest festival under many regional names celebrated throughout India. The three days of the Pongal festival are called Surya Pongal, and Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.

Another Feather Added to Our Cap: It's A Guinness World Records!

It was truly a proud moment for Sri Saradha Devi Ashram when 13 children from our home together with our members participated in the Guinness World Records Official Attempt for "Most People Spinning Fire". 

This event was organised by the traditional martial arts, Silambam Association, in conjunction with the World Silambam Championship 2019 KL. It was held at the National Sports Complex Bukit Jalil Stadium and was participated by 230 participants.
All participants were given silambam with fire lit at both its ends. Participants are to spin the silambam with fire to attempt for the record. And yes.... we did it! A new Guinness World Records was successfully recorded... the Most People Spinning Fire Records. 

Sri Saradha Devi Ashram would like to take this opportunity to thank our Silambam Master, Mr Manimaran for his diligence and enthusiasm in preparing our children for this wonderful world record attempt. We would also like to wish our children more successes in the future.
