SSDI Ponggal Celebration 2023

The residents of the Sri Saradha Devi Illam Welfare Association, Malaysia have celebrated the pongal festival with great enthusiasm at our association. This festival is dedicated to the sun god, Surya Bhagawan, and corresponds to Makar Sankranti, the harvest festival under many regional names celebrated throughout India. The three days of the Pongal festival are called Surya Pongal, and Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal.

Pongalo Ponggal at Sri Saradha Devi Ashram

The first festival of the year at SSDI has commenced and we can feel the joy and fervour all around us. While most people spent Ponggal on the terrace of their house, we SSDI Devotees celebrated ours at SSDI, Rawang yesterday with the childrens.
With the day being dedicated to Lord Surya, the overflowing is symbolic to the abundance of fortune and prosperity. With rice being symbolic to prosperity and food, this marks the beginning of the celebrations. The children and devotees had a great time celebrating. For a change and to add more sweetness to the fun of the festival, we dressed up like the opposite sex and teamed up as a pair to  cook the Ponggal.
