Sri R. Govindasamy had a vision to set up a home in the name of Holy
Mother Sri Saradha Devi. In
the initial stages, boys and girls were kept together at the same home in the Melaka
Ashram. He always felt that as time passes a home must be set up for the girls.
However, Sri R. Govindasamy did not live to realize his dream. After his
untimely death in 1997, the Management Committee decided to relocate the girls in a home which
was to be known as Sri Saradha Devi Illam. In 1998, a single storey bungalow
was rented at Taman Sri Garing in Rawang (which is about 40km) from Kuala
Lumpur. As there were 6 girls in the Ashram, they were all moved to the home in
Rawang. From a humble beginning of 6 girls the number grew to 16. They were all
orphans or children of single parents. As the number grew and as the demand
from the society too was pressing, a bigger bungalow was rented at Taman Hijau
Rawang. Today, the home is a home for 35 girls, of different ages. They are all
from different parts of the country. They are either orphans, single parents or
from broken homes.
